A bit about Claire G

I have an Undergraduate Award: BA Honours degree in Primary Education with a geography specialism. I completed this degree at Roehampton University from 2008-2011. Having taught in the UAE for 2 years, I decided to pursue a TEFL qualification to further support children whose first language is not English. I specialise in the core subjects of English, maths and science, including the teaching of phonics and early reading for younger students. I have years of experience supporting students with a range of SEND needs, as well as those students who are learning English as a second language. I also have a deep passion and knowledge of primary geography. I strongly believe that a supportive and positive teaching style helps learners to achieve their very best. Therefore, I encourage a positive attitude towards mistakes to develop a student's confidence and resilience, especially when faced with a difficult topic or skill they are learning. I love games and fun quizzes to enhance understanding and recall of concepts taught. Outside of teaching I enjoy reading, especially fiction books. I like to keep fit and enjoy walking, swimming and cycling. I am a very creative person, and love cross stitching, including designing and stitching my own designs. Some of my other hobbies include: playing board games, drawing, painting, bullet journaling, jigsaw puzzles and writing. I am a qualified primary teacher with over 9 years experience teaching a wide range of age ranges. Although my experience is mostly based in the UK, I also have 2 years experience teaching the English curriculum in the UAE. I have extensive experience teaching students with a range of SEND needs, as well as teaching the English curriculum to those whose first language is not English.
