A bit about Sana

I have loved teaching and tutoring Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths for the last 13 years. I am very familiar with AQA, EdExcel, OCR Gateway and iGCSE exam boards. My Engineering degree followed by 15 years of working in industry, and experience teaching the Sciences and Maths in my local Secondary school, have given me the perfect grounding to providing passionate, clear, well-planned lessons. My initial approach is to identify gaps in understanding whatever the subject/topic. My skills lie in being able to break down a topic into sizeable chunks, explaining things in simpler ways and identifying the appropriate resources and tutoring methods to suit the individual student. Once I see a breakthrough in understanding, I then build on confidence by putting the learning into practice with exam questions and techniques. Throughout, I am always monitoring and checking in with my students to ensure they are happy with the content, level and pace of the lesson. I also am happy to mark and provide feedback of work that I may set or the student has completed, in between lessons - each lesson starts with a review of the marked work and lessons can be focussed on gaps highlighted from this work - which leads to faster progress and active learning. I like to ensure that lessons are a two-way process and as interactive as possible. Interested in a career change from Engineering into Education, I first volunteered at my local primary school, focussing on Maths and Science. This placing opened up my first tutoring opportunities in 2010 and I have been tutoring students from Y5-11 in all three Sciences and Maths for 13 years. Alongside my tutoring I have worked at my local secondary school teaching and tutoring the Sciences and Maths for 8 years too. My school career included teaching full classes, small group interventions, small group classes, exam preparation as well as running intense Maths Saturday Schools leading up to GCSE exams. I am now enjoying a full-time career in private tutoring. I like to put my students at ease by creating a relaxed and fun learning environment where even the shyest of student feels they can make a contribution. My style is all about being open and flexible, if need be - my lessons can range from structured teaching, Q&A sessions to a kind of tutoring clinic where students can bring up any difficult topics that may have cropped in school that week. In the build-up to exams, students find my revision sessions and past paper practice beneficial. No two lessons are the same, Each lesson, I always ensure my students experience some kind of success which has a positive effect on their belief in themselves and that subject.
