A bit about Ayşe

I specialise in the full range of AQA Psychology content (including helping A2 students revise their AS content) and AS Sociology content with education, family & households, culture & identity and research methods. I am also an experienced external examiner. I work in an FE college teaching AQA Psychology and Sociology. Before this, I worked in a language school for 3 years. I enjoy teaching and am very passionate about my subjects and enabling the younger generation to share this same passion with my subjects and gain a career in these areas. In my spare time I enjoy taking Jellybean (my amazing dog in my profile picture!) for long walks and taking some time to relax. I like to mix teacher and student led activity in every lesson. I use worksheet, videos and discussion to enable these. I incorporate all assessment objectives in both Psychology and Sociology and exam skills into all of my lessons from the get go. I encourage independent learning in my lessons as I think this is an important value for all students to gain at this level of education, especially if they are wanting to progress through to a degree after their A levels. I use my teaching style as I understand that not everyone learns the same way and education is most definitely not a 'one-size fits all' approach. Good teaching to me is sparking a genuine interest in my subject and developing this through each lesson. Throughout my teaching, I embed areas of interest and encourage my students to 'think outside of the box' as to where they see these topics happening in every day life and how they can use their new knowledge moving forward. This is especially important to me as I believe every student learns through their own individual way and I try my very best to adapt to this. My students are always very interested and engaged throughout my lessons and they leave with not only the knowledge necessary, but the added value of Psychology and Sociology and a genuine interest in how they can use their new knowledge throughout their lives. I teach AQA for Psychology and Sociology at A level (16+). I have such a genuine passion for my subjects as I believe that they are evident in every aspect of life. For example, with Sociology, you can see how interactions between external and internal factors in Education can impact an individual through their social class, ethnicity or gender. With Psychology, you can use your knowledge gained through the topics of social influence and psychopathology, to understand why good people can do bad things and give you another perspective on a criminal, other than what you see reported in the news. Ever since I was a little girl, I had a dream of becoming a teacher. I remember having an excellent teacher throughout every stage of my educational life and someone who truly believed in me, even when I doubted myself. I wanted to be this person for my own students later on in life and thinking that even if they forgot my name, they would always remember the way that I made them feel about themselves and how I gave them the courage to carry on when things became tough! I specialised in BioPsych during my degree and my dissertation was on evolutionary Psychology. However, my favourite topic to teach is social influence, as it’s a bit of both psychology and sociology! I also worked in a language school for 3 years so I have experience in specialising in English as an additional language learners. 2:1 (although, I finished with 68.5% - so close!) BSc (Hons) in Psychology with Sociology and a PGCE in Psychology and Biology (up to GCSE). I also have a WJEC Level 3 in Criminology and I am the programme leader for Criminology extend in my current job.
