A bit about Joseph H

An adaptable and motivated Science teacher, with two years experience delivering online learning. Specialist knowledge/experience teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography up to KS4 (AQA, OCR & Edexcel), and Biology at A-level (AQA, OCR & Edexcel). Highly experienced working with high ability and SEND pupils. Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography up to KS4, and Biology at A-level. I tailor each lesson directly to every student, and lessons can range from interactive and detailed topic explanations, through to creative application tasks and/or exam question practise. I have worked as a teacher for several years, and have been working as a full time tutor, both online and in person, since December 2020. I am passionate about Science and the level of understanding analytical thinking affords the individual. I love communicating my knowledge to empower and develop the next generation. My lessons take the form of an intellectual conversation, and incorporate elements of lecturing to explain concepts, with in depth questioning and application tasks to validate comprehension and understanding. I love my subjects and enjoy educating people. They say "when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life" and I feel like I'm living the dream in that respect! Intelligence is not innate. It is something that can be developed through hard work and effort. In this life, you get what you work for. My teaching philosophy is centred around the pursuit of excellence and a true understanding of the world. I am highly motivational, yet down to earth and easy-going. I make lessons fun and engaging, and set clear boundaries for learning, whilst still being a decent human being to get to know. Wow this is a hard question to answer. I've had students turn their performance around completely from near failing through to achieving high exam grades. I've made major positive impacts in the lives of poor and disadvantaged individuals. On a personal level, I've been able to carve out a career doing what I love. I have an integrated Masters Degree in Marine Biology from The University of Southampton. I studied at The School of Earth and Ocean Sciences and am an expert in the physical and biological environment and the earth and ocean system. As an educator (and avid learner myself), I have expanded my expertise in to all areas of Science. I wanted to work with people rather than spending all my time alone in a laboratory! I am passionate about sharing my knowledge with others to help them achieve their goals. I am a rock climber, surfer and yoga teacher. I have played the guitar for 20 years and enjoy writing and composing music. I am well versed in teaching AQA, OCR and Edexcel Sciences (Triple and Combined) up to GCSE and have taught AQA and Edexcel A-Level Biology. I am now also tutoring GCSE AQA Geography. I'm always up for new challenges as I find this keeps me intellectually engaged!
