A bit about Mia C

I am currently a secondary school English teacher in a mainstream high school teaching KS3-A-Level. I specialise in the AQA specifications for both GCSE and A-Level. Since qualifying as a teacher in 2019, I have gained vast experience with a range of students from various social backgrounds, students with special educational needs and high ability students too. I will always aim to make your learning engaging! Primarily, I specialise in teaching KS3 and GCSE English, but I also have experience in teaching A Level English Literature, A Level Language and Literature combined and A Level Sociology. I have also previously taught functional skills which is something that I could also offer for tutoring. I would initially carry out an initial assessment of goals and areas for development and target those areas in tutoring. My lessons consist of engaging learning methods, often utilising technology where possible to ensure various methods of learning. I like to encourage students to develop their intrinsic motivation during lessons! I have been a secondary school teacher for three years and in that time have taught a range of class sizes from 30-35 students, to smaller, more refined groups of 4-5, particularly for A Level or GCSE re-sits. English in particular is about your creativity and interpretation. It is not clear cut, definitive answers that promote positivity in the world, but instead, allowing minds to exercise their creative skills! Allowing students to foster their creative skills alongside developing skills that will stick with you for life is the one thing I love most about teaching English. I like to use a range of styles suited to the needs of learners. I utilise technology to enhance learning, but also like to use a modelled and scaffolded approach to teaching. I will provide scaffolds to assist and gradually remove those until your skills are your own! Gaining experiece with a range of students who all have in common one motivation: to succeed in English! Working with students who are passionate about the subject, or equally have become dispassioned due to lack of belief in their ability, brings about significant rewards when they succeed! I believe my role is to encourage a love for learning and a passion for development. I have a responsibility to ensure learners become well-rounded individuals with skills for life, not just for English. I am responsive and will adapt to learners needs - therefore, learners feel listened to and in turn, produce the best they can. Teaching a GCSE re-sit cohort of 12 students for only three months and 6 of them passing their exams. PGCE Further education and QTLS. A desire to ensure that every child and learner gets the best possible access to education that they can. I am interested in fitness and sports activities such as skiing and netball. With regards to exam boards, I have experience primarily teaching the AQA GCSE and A Level Literature B Specifications. I have previously had experience teaching the Eduqas GCSE and A Level too. I currently teach year 7-13!
