A bit about Nikki C

I am a Qualified Teacher with a PGCE in Secondary Science specialising in Chemistry. I also have a BSc in Chemistry and Forensic Science, an MRes in Nanochemistry and Materials Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Leeds. In addition to this I have also spent 2.5 years applying these skills in industry as an Analytical Chemist. I was inspired to go into teaching by my A Level Chemistry teacher. His genuine enthusiasm for a challenging subject combined with his care for his students set me on my lifelong journey into Chemistry through my own education and then into my industrial and teaching careers. I have found it incredibly rewarding to be in a position to help pass that understanding on to others. Chemistry is hard! That's why I like it - I enjoy the challenge! The thing that I love most about teaching Chemistry is helping to bring students from confusion to understanding, helping them to make them links between concepts and grow in confidence and test scores by demystifying academic terminology and framing ideas in easy to comprehend manner. I enjoy watching F1 and cricket, or at least I try my best to enjoy the cricket depending on England's performance! I also enjoy baking, as it's just chemistry in the kitchen and you get to eat the results. I am a keen crafter and I particularly enjoy knitting and sewing as I get to practice my problem-solving skills and get to make unique clothes that actually fit!
