A bit about Letizia N

I have worked in many education settings in two different countries (Italy and the UK). I am interested in one to one work with students because I have the possibility to tailor my lessons to their specific needs. I specialise in modern foreign languages (Italian grammar, English grammar, Italian conversation, English as a second language, English-Italian translation), academic writing, revision skills and psychology. In 1985 (primary level). After my degree in modern foreign languages (2005), I specialised in tutoring university students who needed to understand psychology research articles written in English. Between 2012 and 2014 I was a tutor at Durham University (MA in translation Studies). After completing a Foundation Degree in Counselling (2014), I started tutoring students who needed help with the composition of their essays. I ask my students what they need to focus on, if they have specific issues/difficulties/needs, and plan my lessons accordingly. In this way, my students and I can create the most favourable conditions possible to facilitate the study of a topic. Practising and teaching yoga, mindfulness and meditation; gardening (I have an allotment); reading; singing; dancing; cycling; walking in nature; creativity in general (from knitting to making cards). Teacher Training Diploma; Degree in Modern Foreign Languages (First); MA in Translation Studies (Distinction) Foundation Degree in Counselling (Distinction) TEFL certificate I am not teaching at the moment, but between 2011 and 2014 I worked for AQA as a reviser for GCSE Italian exam papers. I endevour to adapt it to the needs of my students Organising an 'Italian Day' for my primary and secondary school students when I was teaching Italian as a foreign language. I planned and delivered a day packed full of fun activities (games, songs, cooking, role play, virtual trips to Italy). For five years I also organised summer trips to Italy with the year 6 students in one of the schools I was teaching at. We would spend a week in Tuscany and all my pupils would be able to interact in Italian with the locals (and ask for their favourite gelato flavours and pizza toppings!) I have seen first hand that, as varied and interesting as it can be, not always can a classroom approach to teaching meet the students' needs fully. Being a tutor gives me the opportunity to help each individual reach their full potential as a successful student. Also, I have seen how difficulties and frustrations triggered by the education environment can impact negatively on students' well-being and mental health. I love to help them find a learning style and pace that makes them feel more confident and relaxed.
