A bit about Michael L

I have been a Headteacher in Moscow; Head of Juniors, at a top Catholic boys’ boarding school, in France; and have taught Princes in Saudi Arabia, but my most rewarding experiences have been in tutoring: I always strive to develop a love of learning by instilling a sense of fun, determination and challenge. Tutoring, for me, is a unique privilege where you can see the amazing potential of each child take hold and flourish. As well as being a qualified teacher and having taught many subjects - strengths in English, Psychology, History and languages (Spanish, French and a little Russian) - I have also experience across different examination levels: IB, A Level, IGCSE , IELTS & SATS, to name a few. My Psychology degree means I am quickly able to assess and tackle any issues which may inhibit learning and develop the confidence needed to succeed. We normally start lessons with a brief chat, to help build/maintain rapport and get them ready for the work ahead. We then have a starter activity to get them prepared. Following the starter, we work through the most challenging parts of the lesson,. We finish with a short recap and sometimes an online game as a reward for good work and to end the lesson in a positive way e.g. connect 4, bamboozle vocab games etc. Although I have been teaching since 2000, I have been formally tutoring for the last five years. Since 2021 I have realised the true potential of online learning and all my students now tell me this is their preferred option. Whilst initially sceptical, I have seen my students go on to regularly gain grades 8 and 9 ay IGCSE and I look forward to helping in whatever way I can.
