A bit about Luke M

I am a professional, qualified English teacher, with a PGCE from the University of Sunderland. I have extensive experience in the GCSE curriculum. I have a particular passion for Shakespeare and am knowledgeable with all the major GCSE texts encountered on the curriculum, with 'A Christmas Carol' and 'An Inspector Calls' being particular favourites! I am also a part time actor with a BA (Hons) in Drama from the University of Ulster. I am enthusiastic, passionate and like to think that I bring a sense of warmth and relatability to my teaching style. I understand that every student is different and I enjoy adapting my approach to ensure every student gets the individual, thought provoking teaching that they need. I pay attention, I am conscientious and sensitive to the needs of my students and, above all, I thoroughly enjoy what I do! My teaching philosophy is a simple one, but I feel it is quite effective. I strongly believe that students should love what they learn, and the only way they can achieve that is if they have a deep understanding of the content they are studying. If a student understands why they are studying something, they will be more inclined to feel attached to it and engage more effectively. I believe in learning for the sake of learning and this, I find, helps students build their skills even further. I am experienced in teaching all major exam boards, specifically AQA, EdExcel, Eduqas, OCR and WJEC. I work with Years 7 - 11 and have extensive experience with A Level texts. I have particular experience with GCSE groups and exam preparation and techniques. I adore Shakespeare, and specialise in the major Shakespeare texts taught at GCSE. I have extensive knowledge of Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing and Romeo and Juliet and have taught these at GCSE level. With a degree in Drama, I am also highly skilled in the Shakespeare texts and the GCSE play texts including 'An Inspector Calls' and 'Blood Brothers.'
