A bit about Hannah B

I believe in taking a personalised and fun approach to engage each child that I support, and always ensure that my methods are student focused. I enjoy the one-to-one nature of tuition and feel that I can make more of a difference when focusing on the needs and interests of each individual child. I have worked with children from different cultural backgrounds as well as students with special educational needs, and enjoy using a mix of visual, kinaesthetic and auditory learning tools, to ensure that my approach is engaging, flexible, effective and, most importantly, fun! I employ three principles when teaching: patience, understanding, and encouragement. I find this helps students to become confident, social learners, ready to achieve their potential. I began tutoring online in the summer of 2018. I supported children using online resources to ensure that they reach their academic potential. I utilise multimedia strategies to convey information in a fresh and interesting way and help students to build learning and citizenship skills to help with personal growth in addition to increasing academic knowledge. I employ visual and auditory approaches to make the lessons more engaging and interactive. A student I taught This student had been learning English for three years and she wanted to take part in an English-speaking competition, in which she would present on climate change and how her school was helping to combat relevant issues. Through a student-centred approach, we explored different areas using online research to ensure she was passionate about the subject matter. Once she had decided the area she wanted to focus on, we made a vision board of the different things she wanted to include. The main challenge was memorisation, which was rectified through ‘teaching the teacher’. This allowed her to memorise the concepts even if it was not word perfect. We were both delighted when she received first place in the competition and she has gone on to participate in many more competitions. Students love my ability to hone in on their particular interested to make the topics more exciting for them. When learning online it can often be difficult to connect with the student; which is why I do my utmost to create a lesson plan that is fun, interesting, and completely tailored to them and their goals!
