A bit about Vic N

I have been teaching for 19 years and have taught all the primary ages. Maths is my passion and I love to use visual representations of maths equipment to help children understand what the maths is all about before trying to tackle the abstract numbers in calculations. Fractions are my favourite! My favourite subject is maths but I enjoy teaching reading, writing, spag and phonics too. I love every subject within maths and have many resources to help learn this subject via the use of PowerPoints with examples and questions in, websites, online games and quizzes to help you learn. My remote tutoring sessions are delivered mostly using PowerPoints which children will annotate over the top of and through online quizzes, games and websites where they can use resources to build numbers. I have been tutoring alongside my teaching job for 14 years. I started when I had my first child and tutored face to face at my home. Since the covid pandemic I now deliver online sessions mostly via zoom calls. I love it when a child makes a connection with something they have a learnt and a question they are answering and they get the ‘lightbulb moment’. A smile spreads across their face, they feel proud and do do I that they have persevered and achieved a small goal. Maths is used so much in everyday life so it’s great to make those real life links. I like to model and explain a concept first using visual resources, then complete some questions together before getting the child to try on their own. I think verbal praise is very important to let a child know they are doing well and adjust expectations accordingly so that every child can achieve during every session. I love being able to make a difference to a young persons knowledge and understanding and that’s why I love teaching. Working one to one with a child means they get tailored learning matching exactly what they need at a pace appropriate to their learning style. You get to build relationships much quicker than in a whole class situation.
