A bit about Jonathan B

I have 35 years experience in teaching and tutoring. I can teach English, Maths, Chemistry and Physics for Edexcel and AQA syllabuses. For seventeen years I ran online Courses in the core subjects of GCSE. I think that a student learns most effectively when the teacher listens just as much as speaks; understands that every student is unique; always asks the student "What do you know already?" " What do you find difficult about this topic?"

When a student understands something - or becomes able to successfully answer a question - that they previously thought was impossible.

I always begin any topic by finding out what the student already knows about it; however much or little that may be. Connecting with this is the basis for a successful lesson.

Challenging my fitness - both running and in the gym. Playing jazz guitar as well as possible (without anyone realising that I'm only an amateur!)
