A bit about Assya B

As an experienced secondary school teacher and examiner, I specialise in preparing students for GCSE English Language and Literature exams, AQA and Edexcel specifications. GCSE English Language: Sessions usually involve breaking down each exam paper in terms of the skills required, for example: language analysis, structure analysis, evaluation, synthesis, comparison, creative writing etc. A typical session would involve me explaining what each skill requires, how it's assessed by examiners, then guided practice using paragraph structures and sentence starters, followed by in-depth feedback. GCSE English Literature: Sessions will usually be text-based and include breaking down plot, key characters and themes, learning relevant context and how to incorporate that into analysis, exam practice using past papers, essay structures and sentence starters followed by in-depth feedback using the markscheme to help students understand how and why they might get a specific mark. KS3: Sessions will be more tailored to a student's specific needs. The best KS3 sessions tend to slowly build the skills needed in KS4, usually those key skills are analysis and creative writing. KS3 should also be a time when students build literary, so sessions might involve a lot of reading, comprehension and literacy exercises. I started tutoring over 6 years ago, when I first became teacher. I have tutored multiple students every year since, including KS3, KS4 and KS5 students, as well as Year 12 students preparing for resits. I tutor both in person and online, and have ran online group sessions too. I've been a teacher for over 7 years, an examiner for over 5 years and a private tutor for 6 years. I'm highly enthusiastic and passionate about my subject, I especially love teaching literature and creative writing. In my spare time, I practice martial arts, I read and write books, and when I have the time, I play video games. The way I break things down, especially things that are more difficult to understand, such as the mark schemes. I am very friendly and patient, and my students can ask me anything. I also provide a lot of resources, for example revision booklets, past papers and banks of sentence starters which my students find incredibly helpful especially because they can use those resources even outside of our sessions. Finally, I am very sympathetic and I have a good understanding of the challenges students face: busy timetables, exam pressure and mental health struggles. My sympathy and understanding is at the heart of my teaching: to me, helping a student learn can't happen without the student feeling safe, respected and confident. I teach AQA and Edexcel, since I have taught and examined for both. I teach KS3 and KS4 classes (Year 7 to Year 11) and can also teach Year 12 resit classes. I can teach KS5 English Literature depending on the specification. A degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. A PGCE in English Secondary/QTS. I am also currently studying for a Masters in Creative Writing.
