An enthusiastic GCSE Maths and Biology Tutor
You can book a free 20 minute, no-commitment introduction with any of our tutors. How does this work?
I am a highly motivated, imaginative and innovative tutor who has the academic and social attributes to help a student to prosper. I am a PhD student currently undertaking my studies in cancer research at the University of Leicester.
I recently graduated from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Biomedical Science and I have also completed my Masters in Cancer Sciences.
I am able to teach GCSE Maths and Science as well as A-Level Biology. I also have prior tutoring experience as I have taught GCSE Biology. In addition, I have acted as a STEM ambassador to pass on my passion for science to those still at school, particularly girls who might not naturally consider science subjects without encouragement.
As someone who has a strong academic background and has recent experience of A-levels and GCSEs, I have a key insight into the current exam structure and key skills required for success. I know exactly what examiners are looking for and will help push the student to achieve high grades. I understand that many topics seem daunting, to begin with, and my aim is to build the confidence within the student by providing as much support and understanding as possible so that they achieve results to the best of their ability.
I am able to teach using a variety of sources and in differing ways, and I able to work with the curriculum to provide any information in a format that includes opportunities for visual and auditory learning. I am a firm believer in viewing things from the student’s perspective and therefore will give a lot of time to pupil/student voice. I think it is vital that students can dictate the sessions (if they want to/are able to) so that they can gain maximum benefit to them. My tutoring style is relaxed which helps put a student at ease; after all, they are having extra lessons outside of school! They can, however, be very formal if this is what the family or student would prefer.
I believe the key to effective tutoring is identifying areas of difficulty and practicing the techniques required for these areas. Exam techniques, such as time management, are also crucial for maths and science subjects, therefore, I strive to give advice and practice in these areas. I am willing to give the student homework if this what the student is happy with as this would really help cement the work during lessons.
At the moment I offer the subjects stated but if you also require any additional subjects then please don't hesitate to contact me.
Availability: I am fairly flexible on availability and will be happy to consider your request.
