A bit about Jonny K

A passionate musician with 10 years classroom teaching experience. I specialise in Guitar, Ukulele, Keyboard tuition. Vocational experience with RSL Level 2 Performance and Music Technology qualification support. Level 3 Edexcel in Music Performing support for a range of units. Instrumental technique - differentiated lessons to support your current needs and level. Keyboard, Guitar, Ukulele. RSL Music Performance, Music Technology and Composition support. Level 3 Edexcel Music Performance support. Music Technology BA hons. Music Recording Techniques/Producing/Mixing, DAW composition. I believe retrieval practice is a fantastic way to start a lesson. I achieve this by asking 3 questions. One is a short-term piece of learning (previous week) and two other questions that refer to longer periods. This could be a visual question with a diagram of chords, or terminology to explain a musical concept. I cater to the needs of the student, I use a range of memorable practical activities, model the process and allow the students to develop skills in their own time and pace. I consolidate learning, and use an application to share resources, allow students to keep a video diary and respond to weekly feedback. I started private guitar lessons when I was a university student in 2008. Whilst completing my BA honours in Music Technology I spent two evenings a week teaching five students all at different levels. After completing my undergraduate degree, I achieved a PGCE in 2012. I stepped back from tutoring and have been in the classroom close to 10 years. Now with a new passion for EdTech, I look forward to offering my skills to students online though Sherpa. Music is a universal language. Learning an instrument helps with behaviour, confidence and encourages creativity and learning skills that can be used across many subjects. Students can fight stress by learning to play music. Soothing music is especially helpful in helping all ages relax. I look forward to sharing my knowledge, experience and fun. I am a demonstrator, more of a friendly coach. Each student will have a unique experience depending on their needs. I do promote self-learning, as students control their own learning pace. I can facilitate the resources and modelling, and the students can access these in their own time. I am keen to know about the student’s personality and interests to ensure they receive an appropriate teaching style. Students like my openness and listening skills. This could be to support their music education, or learning guitar, ukulele, or keyboard. I am human, I was once learning instruments myself, and I have seen how success is made in the educational setting. I have taught RSL Level 2 Music performance for a number of years. One unit of the course is a design and execute a 15-minute performance. A group of students created an ensemble to perform their full set together. Six years later, the students are in a signed band, playing all over the UK and breaking into Europe. I am super proud of the lads and keep in contact when they achieve something great. NPQML - National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership - DFE. - PGCE - Lifelong Learning - Pass - MSET, QTLS. - Music Technilogy BA (Hons) - 2:1 - Music Technology Level 3 BTEC - Distinction - Music GCSE - A RSL - Rock School Limited Vocational Course (Level 2), Edexcel Music Technology/Music Performance (Level 2/Level 3) I have extensive experience working in different areas of the music industry. I have a lot of experience in aspects such as recording, composition, and web design, but most importantly performing. Previously I performed in an award winning indie/rock band at large and small venues. Through this I have experience of organising large events enabling me to develop my communication and management skills. Now you can find me playing in a professional acoustic duo. We generally play at private occasions and corporate events. We are proud to work with a production company ‘An Experience With’ and be surrounded by a network of industry professionals. We have played at high profile events such as ‘An Evening with Robert De Nero, ‘An Experience with Al Pacino’, and we played several dates with Vinnie Jones. I enjoy building a relationship with some outer agencies, I am in close contact with educational and music industry professionals.
