A bit about Amanda P

I've been tutoring GCSE and A-level science and maths students online for well over 4 years now. I've helped my students gain confidence, an appreciation for the subject I teach, and of course secure great grades that make them competitive applicants for the next stage of their education/careers. A lesson with me consists of a mixture of content-learning and exam technique. I believe the key to being a great student and learner is in a deep understanding of the subject. It's impossible to plan for every exam question the examiner could potentially throw at you, so to make yourself as versatile as possible, you need to have a strong foundation and truly understand the topics, not just memorise facts. I use a wide variety of examples, models, and explanation techniques to ensure you have the base knowledge and then I use past exam questions and quick verbal quizzing to test your ability to apply this knowledge. I am a second year physics student at Imperial College London, this makes me a very scientific-minded and highly numerate tutor; it also means I have only recently sat my GCSEs and A-levels so I know exactly what the process is like and how to get you the grades you want. I have experience in tutoring to the syllabus of all the major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) At GCSE my grades were: eight grade 9s, one grade 8, one A*, and one A. At A and AS-levels I achieved: 4A*s in maths, further maths, physics, and chemistry and an A equivalent in the first year of Spanish A-level. I love teaching and always have. Ever since I was in school I found myself taking a lead role in study groups, explaining things to peers who didn't quite understand, and this eventually led me to be the tutor I am today. I believe in learning for knowledge and understanding, not just to pass exams. Content regurgitation and memorisation techniques will only get you so far, in order to truly grasp the knowledge, YOU need to be the one to make the links and join the dots in order to see for yourself how different concepts interplay with each other. My role in that is to guide you, shape your thought processes, and put you back on track if you go astray. I have a penchant for explaining seemingly confusing ideas in a way that makes them clearer and more intuitive, helping you make sense of abstract concepts more easily and thus breeze through exams.
