Keith currently works with refugees helping them adjust to life in the U.K by providing intensive support through comprehensive ESOL sessions. He also runs his own website where he provides creative writing sessions to groups or individually. He has a varied client base that range from memoir to script writing to a collection of new formalism in poetry. He holds a master’s with distinction from Lancaster University and a first class Bachelor of Arts from the University of Bolton. He is qualified to teach English as a foreign language through the Cambridge partnership and has been working in that capacity since 2016. He’s a keen guitar player and owns six (three acoustic and three electric) and has just walked the Camino Ingles (English section) some 68 miles and has sore feet. "It has been a fantastic journey. Stimulating and encouraging. Refreshing style of teaching which fostered a relaxed, creative atmosphere. I looked forward to each class knowing there would be something new to embrace and stretch the thought processes. The challenges increased my confidence levels and I created work I never dreamed I would. i.e. producing a radio play in my own art room at home. Keith encouraged and made space for us to develop our own individual styles. Thank you for opening my mind and eyes to so much! " Chris M, North Devon It's always rewarding to receive feedback like this. I produce music and play guitar. I write poetry and I'm very much interested in traditional poetic forms such as Japanese group writing like Choka and western forms like the sonnet and sestina. I very much interested in using those forms in a contemporary setting. An example can be found here: https://www.thecreativecasa.co.uk/aeon-dissention My life experience is something I draw upon when writing. It’s cathartic and healing to do so. This is something I actively promote in my teaching. Writing creatively is a craft, something to learn, something to find discipline in. I like to think of it like this – there’s flow and balance like the yin to the yang as Chuang Tzu puts it: “In stillness, he and the yin share a single Virtue; in motion, he and the yang share a single flow.” Or to put it another way comedian Bill Hicks said: “The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while...” In other words we have the up and downs in life (the rollercoaster) and we have the left and right in life (the yin yang). We have simple choices between fear and love and between left and right, and good and bad, but somewhere along the way that all gets blurred and confused. Creative writing is a way. A way to untangle those blurred lines, create focus to imagine clearly and talk through our experiences, whether fantastic or banal, horrific or joyous. It's another way to express moments of this life. I hold a M.A, Distinction from Lancaster University and B.A (Hons) First Class from the University of Bolton in creative writing. I also hold a 140 hour T.E.F.L qualification from Cambridge at pass+ level.
