A bit about Angus F

I Live on the Kent coast. I'm quite an outdoors person. I'm a very experienced educator from five years teaching English in China. Our training centre was highly succesful. I designed courses and helped many students. Because the training centre classes were in addition to school classes, I had to make the courses engaging. I specialise in instructing correct grammar and expressive writing. My lessons have a lecture like section at the beginning, with questions possible within the listening section. Next we would put the target grammar or style subjects through an excample and practice stage. Finally there would be a recap. Questions and excamples are encouraged within reason at any stage during class. Key points for student retention of memory are personalising what is being learned by involving the students input and also pacing the rate of learning to the students learning style. I started online tutoring in 2018. I did so all year, teaching TEFL to Chinese learners. I had a good rating working for a major tutoring company based in Beijing. I was able to consistently grow my student numbers by making classes engaging. I do love teaching English. Skill in language is key to succeeding in life after all, arguably. I was pleasantly surprised to find that in China, when I lived there, working as a TEFL teacher, the British accent was favoured above other national English native accents. I think helping learners speak, listen, read and write better is such a key skill. My teaching style is best described as organised friendliness. I'm quite aware that there are key curriculum requirements that must be achieved within a time-frame. However, I always try and find some kind of common ground between my students and I such as an interest or attitude. I am learner-focussed in the modern style. I've become good at tailoring classes to students. I like being a tutor. It's a challenge to personalise courses during the teaching process, to more effectively teach a certain students needs. Helping learners has a ripple effect and sometimes it feels like if you can make a posative personal conection, even if in a small way, then that will make the learner more likely to be in a position to also influence others posatively; And on and on it goes. I am student focussed. I encourage input, questions and feedback from students throughout all parts of the class within reason. Sometimes when a learner is first taught something, they will want to come straight back right away and talk about it. This is to be encouraged within reason. I have had some happy students by involving activities in my classes. For excample, if we are learning punctuation then we will not just have teacher excamples but also have students trying to come up with excamples. Also we may relate the written punctuation to spoken patterns, maybe in a roleplay. Younger learners would like puppets and maybe teens would enjoy pop music related excamples. I was a training centre teacher in China. Students would come to my classes in addition to their regular school lessons. Tiredness, burnout and feelings of 'why!' were often encoutered by our learners. In all cases, I was able to engage and improve my students despite their tiredness by ppropriatte use of personal influence and engaging activities. I have advanced TEFL qualifications covering grammar, reading, vocabulary, writing and talking skill teaching. These advanced qualifications are a constant reference for idea's to make engaging activity baseed class sections. My Masters and Honours degree's show I'm capable of advanced use of language. I originally started teaching because I had a good University education and was influenced by world class lecturerers. I was impressed by their ability to instruct and inform with high ability. I have always liked reading. I feel like teaching English is my calling now.
