A gene contains a large number of bases. Three of these bases is a 'codon'. This codon codes for an amino acid. When all the amino acids in the gene (which contains many codons) are made, they interact to form a protein. The enzyme used to combine amino acids by forming peptide bonds is called peptidyl transferase.
