Jet engines burn a type o fuel called kerosene which then forms carbon dioxide as a waste gas. Carbon dioxide is a "greenhouse gas" which contributes to global warming. Air travel releases large amounts of carbon dioxide high up in the atmosphere and this has a significant effect on global warming. Reduction in air travel will reduce carbon dioxide emissions, therefore reducing the carbon footprint.
