To what extent is the place in which ‘Climbing My Grandfather’ written reflected in the poem?

The metaphoric 'mountain' on which the grandchild is climbing is meant to show the journey in which the child is undertaking. Getting to know an elder is not always an easy task and the poet is showing the work he has put into this task.
