Many of the communities in Alaska are remote and lack access to emergency medical facilities with the capabilities to treat major injuries. Coupled with the challenging weather conditions the region can face and the limited availability of road infrastructure often prevents people from accessing emergency medical care in a reasonable time frame which can worsen outcomes for those in need of emergency medical treatment.
