Volcanologists will monitor volcanoes and look out for warning signs that suggests an eruption could occur. Small earthquakes, the release of gases, temperature rising and changes/rising of the magma chamber can all be warning signs however it is difficult to predict exactly when a volcanic eruption will occur and the intensity of it.
