The sun's rays are more concentrated at the equator. This means there is warm air, this air rises, cools, condenses and forms cloud. The water vapour in the clouds increases in size, eventually becomes too heavy and leads to precipitation (rainfall). The equator is therefore a low pressure zone with frequent rainfall.
