April 1861 is a very important month in American History, as it marks the beginning of the Civil War. This was a war within America, accepted as being fought over the morals and economics of slavery.
Early on April 12 1861, Confederate troops fired on Fort Sumter, which is in the Charleston Harbor South Carolina. Union forces returned fire, though soon later they surrendered. This is widely regarded as marking the start of the Civil War.
