Theoretically, it is those data points which are 1.5 IQR below or above the lower or upper quartiles respectively. However, in practice , this is only a guide and it is imperative to understand the context of the data as data points outside this range could be not outliers and those in the range of so-called ‘not outliers’ could be outliers.
