If by range you mean the difference between the highest and lowest numbers in a collection, then the range is only affected by the value of the highest and lowest numbers.
The range is the difference between the largest and the smallest value in a set of data. It is affected by any outliers - as that outlier can change the range.
So if you have a data set of 1,2,3,4,6,6,7,8 the range is 7 - 1 = 6
But if there was one more value in the set, say 100 the range would become 100 - 1 = 99
