First convert 2 and 1/6 into an improper fraction. There are 6/6 in every whole one, so there are 12/6 in 2 whole ones. Add on the 1/6 and you have 13/6. To divide by a fraction, you flip the 2nd fraction and multiply instead. So now you have 13/6 times by 3/1. To multiply fractions, you multiply the tops together and the bottoms together. This will give you 39 on top and 6 on the bottom. Now convert the improper fraction 39/6 into a mixed number. Divide 39 by 6 - you get 6 remainder 3. The 6 is the whole number part and the 3 is 3/6 which can be simplified to 1/2. The final answer is 61/2.

The first way I'd approach this would be to convert 2 1/6 into an improper fraction making it 7/6
My equation then reads 7/6 divided by 1/3
As I'm dividing by less than 1, I know that my answer is going to increase in size. (If I divide by 1, it will stay the same, and if I divide by more than 1 it'll increase).
There's a really simple rule to remember when dividing by fractions, and that is that you change the sign to multiplication and flip the numerator and denominator of whatever you're dividing by.
The equation then becomes: 7/6 multiplied by 3/1 (or just 3).
7/6 multiplied by 3 = 21/6, which can be simplified back down to 3 3/6 or 3 1/2 or 3.5
