Soft drinks are mass produced and almost always use water as a main ingredient, so two possible ways of making them more sustainable are

  • using water more ethically and more conservatively. This could mean reusing waste water to wash the manufacturing equipment, or it could mean pledging to plant trees in areas where woodland has been cut down. (This would help because the plants would absorb rainwater and release it slowly back into the area so it increases natural water storage.)
  • investing in environmentally friendly equipment and treating workers fairly. Environmentally friendly equipment can reduce the amount of energy used (for example to refrigerate the drinks), and ethical treatment of workers improves the social environment.

Hope that helps!
