LANs can be wired or wireless. Wired connections usually use copper cables and the Ethernet standard to transfer data whereas wireless connections use WiFi to transmit data via radio waves. Each have advantages and disadvantages. Wired connections usually have a higher bandwidth but wireless is cheaper and often more convenient.
