Good question! You are referring to the dissolution of the Monasteries between 1536 and 1541 under which Henry VIII. He dissolved monasteries, priories, convents, and friaries. The goal of this policy was to increase the crown’s income, though a significant section of these funds actually went towards the King’s military campaigns.
