Say we have two numbers in standard form to divide, (3x10^8) / (4x10^7). If we are dividing, we can simply divide each part of the number so that we get 3/4 x 10^1, or 0.75x10^1, or 7.5x10^0. Note that we get 10^1 by dividing numbers with powers (8-7=1), we can simply subtract the powers as the numbers are both 10 to the power of something.
