You take the number you're wanting the percentage of. In this case, this is £17.
17
And an easy method of working out a percentage of this number is to multiply by converting our percentage into a decimal.
0.27
17 x 0.27 will give you your answer.
4.59

I am assuming you want to know what is 27% off £17.
To find 27% off £17, you would multiply £17 by 0.27 (to find the amount of the discount), and then subtract that amount from £17:
£17 * 0.27 = £4.59
Then, subtract £4.59 from £17:
£17 - £4.59 = £12.41
So, after applying a 27% discount, the new price would be £12.41.

Here to help you thrive
First step would be to find 10% of £17
====> 10%= £17/10
= £1.7
In order to find 20% of £17, we must multiply £1.7 by 2, this is equal to £3.4
20% of £17 = £1.7 X 2
= £3.4
Next step is to find 1% of £17, this is equal to £0.17, in order to find 7% of £17, we multiply £0.17 by 7
7% = £1.19
Therefore 27% of £17 is equal to £1.19 added to £3.4 ===> 27%= £1.19 + £3.4
= £4.59

This question looks like a calculator question and the easiest hack to find any percentage of anything on a calculator is to locate the % button, on my calculator its found by pressing 'shift' then 'ans' , yours may be different but it will be in yellow above one of the buttons meaning you will need to press shift before it.
In maths whenever you see the word 'of' you need to multiply.
So 27% of 17 means 27% x 17
using my calculator i would type :
27 'shift' 'ans' x 17 =
then my answer would be 4.59

To find 27% of £17 first find 25% by dividing by 4.
£17/4 = £4.25
Then find 1% by dividing by 100
1% of £17 = £0.17
times this by 2 to get 2%
2% of £17 = 0.17 x 2 = £0.34
Then add this together:
25% = £4.25
2% = £0.34
= £4.59
Remember if you're working out a 27% discount you would need to take away 27% from £17.

27 percent *17 =
(27:100)*17 =
(27*17):100 =
459:100 = 4.59

1) Split 27% into (2)10% and (7) 1%
2) Work out 10% of £17 which is £1.70
2) Multiply £1.70 by 2 (the answer is £3.40)
3) Work out 1% of £17 which is £0.17
4) Multiply £0.17 by 7 (the answer is £1.19
5) Add £3.40 and £1.19
6) The final answer is £4.59

so you would do 27 divide by 100 then times that number by 17 so it would be 4.59

If you don't have a calculator the way I would suggest is to first write what I call a percentage sum. A percentage sum uses the common percentages (ones that are easy to calculate) - 100%, 50%, 10%, 1% - to make up the percentage required. So in this case 27% = 2 x 10% + 7 x 1%. The next step is to work out what 10% and 1% of 17 are. To find 10% we divide by 10 because 10% is equal to 1/10. 17 divided by 10 is 1.7. To find 1% we divide by 100 because 1% is 1/100. 17 divided by 100 is 0.17. Then we use these results in our percentage sum. Here 27% of 17 = 2 x 1.7 + 7 x 0.17. Use whatever multiplication method you prefer to find that 2 x 1.7 = 3.4 and 7 x 0.17 = 1.19. Then add these together to get 4.59.

We could do this in two ways. We could do this in two ways. The first way would be to understand that percentages are out of a 100, (percent is a special way of saying out of a 100.) So if we find 1% first, we can then multiply this by 27.
To find 1%, we need to divide £17 by 100 as this number is being split into 100 parts. £17.00 divided by 100 gives us £0.17. We now know what 1 % of this number is. We need 27 parts of this number, so we can multiply £0.17 x 27 which gives us £4.59
The second way to do is to write the percentage as a decimal, so 27 % percent can be written as 0.27. To find 27 % of £17, we need to multiply 0.27 x £17.00. This will give the answer of £4.59

It is good to always recall that 100% of something means you have split it into 100 equal parts. Each of those parts is 1%.
So 27% would mean you need 27 of these parts.
A good way to think about this question then would be to take 17 and divide it by 100. That is you split it into 100 equal parts!
17/100 = 0.17. Now you want 27% of £17, which means you want 27 hundredths if 17.
Which means: 0.17 x 27 = £4.59
BONUS MATERIAL: you can now see that to get x% of anything you just need to decimalize the percentage and multiply it against your original number. 14% of 12 becomes 0.14 x 12=1.68. And so on...
EXTRA BONUS: try to check your answer to see if it makes sense. In our example, 27% is pretty close to 30% which is closed to a third (33%). 17 is close to 15, and 15 is a nice easy number. Why? Because a third of 15 is five. The answer we got was 4.59, which is close to 5, and so very much in the ballpark of what we could guesstimate!
You don't need to check your answer like this but is very good practice and you should always try to practice your mental maths. It will come in handy next time you go shopping :)

I would go for first dividing 17 by 100 = 0.17
Then I have 1% of 17..
I then times it by 27.
0.17 X 27 = 4,59.
The answer is 4.59.

Click here to view my profile and arrange a free introduction. To get the solution, we are looking for, we need to point out what we know.
1. We assume, that the number 17 is 100% - because it's the output value of the task.
2. We assume, that x is the value we are looking for.
3. If 17 is 100%, we can write it down as 17=100%.
4. We know, that x is 27% of the output value, so we can write it down as x=27%.
5. Now we have two simple equations:
1) 17=100%
2) x=27%
where left sides of both of them have the same units, and both right sides have the same units, so we can do something like that:
17/x=100%/27%
6. Now we just have to solve the simple equation, and we will get the solution we are looking for.
7. Solution for what is 27% of 17
17/x=100/27
(17/x)*x=(100/27)*x - we multiply both sides of the equation by x
17=3.7*x - we divide both sides of the equation by (3.7) to get x
17/3.7=x
4.5945=x
x=4.59
now we have:
27% of 17.=4.59

£17 x 0.27 = £4.59
Similarly, if the question asked for 28%,
£17 x 0.28 = £4.76

Step 1: £17 = 100%, so by dividing it by 100 we can find 1%
17 ÷ 100 = 0.17
Step 2: now multiply the answer by the percent you need to find 1% x 27 = 27%
0.17 x 27 = 4.59
27% of £17 = £4.59
