The nuclear model of the atom was developed by Rutherford following the alpha particles scattering experiment.

There are several nuclear models of the atom all varying in their depiction of the electrons. Rutherford had the electrons moving in orbits around the nucleus. These evolved into the shells of different energies in the Bohr model, before this was replaced by the Schrodinger model where the electrons occupy orbitals (A level only).
