To convert harmful gases in a car's exhaust to harmless gases.
A catalytic converter uses a chamber called a catalyst to change the harmful compounds (e.g carbon monoxide,hydrocarbons) from an engine's emissions into safe gases (e.g carbon dioxide, water)
