Soliloquys are a really interesting technique as they are often the only time that we hear a character’s true thoughts spoken directly to the audience. Shakespeare used them frequently in his plays to reveal innermost thoughts of characters and this often creates a dramatic tension as the audience become aware of things that other characters sometimes are not - similar to dramatic irony.
