To find the range of a set of data, you should subtract the smallest value from the largest value. For example, if the oldest person at a party is 43 and the youngest person is 22, the range of ages will be 43 - 22 = 21 years.

The range = highest observation in the dataset minus the lowest observation in the dataset. Note range must always be positive as it is a measure of spread, and we are calculating the difference between the greatest and least observation.
