Four sevenths and one sevenths add to five sevenths, while one whole and three wholes add up to four wholes. That leads to five wholes and five sevenths

Convert the fractions into improper fraction so 1 4/7 ----> 11/7 and 3 1/7 ----> 22/7. Final step would be to add the numerators together, 11+22=33. Therefore final answer is 33/7. If the question is asking to convert into mixed fraction then the answer would be 4 5/7.
