Hello! Great question! First of all I would divide 240 by 12. The answer of course is 20. Then I would multiply that by 5. That equals 100! Hope that helps!

You are dividing your number in to 12 parts because this is the denominator of the fraction.

240/12 = 20

The question is asking you for 5 of these parts.

20 x 5 = 100

In order to find 5/12 initially we need to find 1/12.

To find 1/12 of 240 we need to split up our 240 into 12 equal groups

240 ÷ 12 = 20

As we are looking for 5/12 we can say we need 20, 5 times

20 x 5 = 100, so we can say 5/12 of 240 = 100

your first step would be to do 240/12 which will give you 20 then the second step would be to do 20 x 5 which will give you an answer of 100
