287 can be written as 287.000 Every time you multiply by 10 you move the decimal point one place to the right so 287.000 become 2870.00 or 2870. Another way to look at it is every time you multiply by 10 you add a zero.

When you multiply a number by 10 you move all the digits one place to the left! In this instance 287 x 10 equals 2,870!
