The Young's modulus is a bulk material property (meaning it applies to a specific material regardless of dimensions) that describes a materials stiffness. It has many uses across engineering ( it used to called the engineering modulus which is why it has a symbol "E") An example of an application would be choosing a material for a specific part which can withstand the forces applied with minimal deformation.
