Momentum is calculated as mass x velocity (p=mv) so here the momentum would be 5.5kg x 8 m/s = 44 kgm/s

That is exactly how I would do it, momentum=massxvelocity =mv=5.5kgX8m/s=44kgm/s

momentum(p) = Mass X Velocity

Mass = 5.5kg

V = 8m/s

p = M X V

p = 5.5kg X 8m/s

p = 44kgm/s

p=mv, hence momentum= 5.5x8= 44

This is a lovely question, a beautifully simple example of how most questions are formed: They give us two values and ask for a third unknown value. This tells us that we need an equation with three values, an equation that contains the three values, then all we need to do is input the values we have. As the other tutors have demonstrated using the equation for momentum above.

A momentum is a product of velocity and mass. Therefore the momentum in this case is 5.5 x 8 = 44 kgm/s.
