Most often it is prism. But the light can be dispersed by any medium whose refraction index depends of the wavelength of light. The light can be dispersed also from diffraction grating

White light can be dispersed by a prism.

Prism is a fancy word for crystal/clear triangle that you shine the light into the split the colours and be able to see the rainbow.
