An atheist believes there is no God. An agnostic is not sure whether there is one or not.

This can vary dependant on the agnostic. An atheist has no religious beliefs they do not believe in a deity and think that there is no life after death. They often align their thoughts with what science can explain. Agnostics however do not rule out the option of a god. Agnostics often are not sure what to believe and whilst are not a part of any organised religion do have some spirituality or are more open minded about ideas of the soul and life after death.

Hello Jalen. An Atheist argues there is no God. This is typically based on a lack of no empirical evidence . An agnostic argues it is not possible to know if there is a God . Typically based on the gap between what humans can know about concepts beyond our experience.

To begin to answer this question, it is helpful to break down the Greek origins of these words. a-theism could literally be translated "without belief in God" while a-gnostic could be described as "without knowledge". So loosely speaking one could say that atheism is more of an active position against the existence of a god, but its noteworthy to acknowledge that even the Romans called early Christians atheists, not because they weren't theists, but because they rejected their gods. Some cultures such as Theravada Buddhism retain a sense of ultimate reality and philosophy without a direct belief in God in the way that certain classical theists would describe it, so while they could be said to be religious, they could also be suitably defined as atheists. Agnostics could be considered as ones who are without the requisite knowledge to take a firm stance either way, a designation of ambivalence for some people. So its important to understand that when people designate these words, people can mean different things.
