Zafran Foods makes cooking sauces and spice pastes. It was founded in 2011 by Ravi Marchetti and its products are sold in supermarkets in nine countries. The business employs 540 people at two factories.

In 2023 Zafran Foods launched a new range of sauces called Hawker Lane. Zafran Foods sells each jar for £3.20. Before the launch, Ravi paid a design agency £90,000 to redesign the jar and the label. The new jar is taller than those used by rival sauces and the label uses bright colours and a hand-drawn picture of the dish the sauce is used for. Supermarket buyers told Ravi that shoppers spend only a few seconds choosing a sauce from a shelf holding more than 40 similar products.

Sales of the Hawker Lane range fell in Quarter 3 when a rival launched a competing range. Ravi is now reviewing the marketing of the range.
