What are the steps to work out change from a note?

e.g. buy 2 cakes at £1.30 each, pay with £5

1. Find the total cost: $2 \times 1.30 =$ £$2.60$
2. Subtract from the amount paid: $5 - 2.60$
3. Change $=$ £$2.40$
