What must every stem and leaf diagram include as well as the stems and leaves?

What are the steps to draw an ordered stem and leaf diagram from raw data?
e.g. 17, 25, 19, 27

1. Write the tens digits as stems in order: 1, 2
2. Write each units digit as a leaf on its row, then put each row in order: $1|7\ 9$ and $2|5\ 7$
3. Add a key: $1|7$ represents 17

True or false? Each leaf in a stem and leaf diagram is a single digit.

True.
The stem holds the leading digit(s) and each leaf is one digit.

What are the steps to find the median from an ordered stem and leaf diagram?

e.g. a diagram with 9 leaves altogether

1. Count the leaves: $n = 9$.
2. If $n$ is odd, the median is the $\frac{n+1}{2}$th leaf counting from the top: the 5th leaf.
3. If $n$ is even, take the value halfway between the two middle leaves.

True or false? To find the range from a stem and leaf diagram you subtract the smallest leaf from the largest leaf.

False. You subtract the smallest whole value from the largest, reading stem and leaf together, e.g. $74 - 31 = 43$.
