The nucleus contains positive protons and neutral neutrons it therefore has an overall positive charge.

There are 3 sub-atomic particles:

  • The proton (which has a positive charge)
  • The neutron (which has no charge)
  • The electron (which has a negative charge)

In the nucleus, you will only find protons and neutrons, therefore, the overall charge of any nucleus will always be positive.
