The order of the colors is red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet. Violet light has the higher frequency and red the lower frequency.

It's all about the frequency (or how fast the light moves)

The order of the colours; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet.

Violet has the highest frequency and red has the lowest.

Try this handy mnuemonic to help you remember the order of the colours:

Richard

Of

York

Gave

Battle

In

Vain

(The first letters prompt you to remember the colour)

Some people prefer Roy G. Biv (Click for a fun song)

To help remember this, it's useful to use a mnemonic!

I was taught Richard (RED) Of (ORANGE) York (YELLOW) Gave (GREEN) Battle (BLUE) In (INDIGO) Vain (VIOLET), but it can be even more useful to create your own - it will help you remember better!

Otherwise, students have enjoyed just creating a new word - ROYGBIV, and saying that out loud a few times will get it well and truly stuck in your head!
