Energy Stores & Transfers Flashcards
All 5 cards in this deck
What is a 'system' in physics?
An object or group of objects.
What happens to energy when a system changes?
There are changes in the way energy is stored — energy is transferred between stores.
Name four ways energy can be transferred between stores.
Mechanically (by a force doing work), electrically, by heating, and by radiation.
Name four energy stores used in GCSE Physics.
Kinetic, gravitational potential, elastic potential and thermal (also chemical, magnetic, electrostatic, nuclear).
True or false? 'Heat' is one of the named energy stores.
False. The store is the thermal store; heating is a way of transferring energy.
